I can't say that the image of a butterfly and a hand has never been seen before, but the approach is visually and emotionally attractive, so I can assert that it is more than average.
I really like the way the butterfly stands so close to the hand, without touching it, as the symbol of a new journey that has to come, but it's hard to accept and to begin.
Concerning the technique, I think the choice of making the butterfly slowly fade away and wear at the bottom the same tones as the background is truly inspired. The butterfly remains a part of this world, by borrowing its features.
The negative part is the way that the hand has been cropped. The thin shiny line which accompanies every edge of the hand and the left side at the bottom of the hand which makes it seem a little bent are a bit disturbing.
There isn't much to be said about the impact, because it's obvious that this deviation aroused deep feelings. I can even say that it's stunning how this photograph can bring back so many beautiful, joyful and hurtful, sad memories all at the same time.
I really adore this photo and that's a fact.
